Every kitchen needs a focal point, and in this white shaker kitchen in Algonquin Highlands, the cooking wall steals the show.

A black range hood rises above the range toward the ceiling, standing out boldly against white brick-style tile that covers the whole wall. Windows on either side keep the area bright and give the cook a view while dinner is on the go.

Palmer’s Woodworking built the white shaker cabinetry beside the range, including a stack of deep drawers that keeps pots, pans and utensils right where they are needed. In the foreground, the blue-grey island with its grey and white veined countertop and farmhouse sink sits just a step away, making it easy to move between prep, cooking and clean-up.

Glass globe pendant lights over the island finish the scene with a soft, welcoming glow, and warm wood floors tie the whole room together.
