Decks #87

Wood deck staircase with railings and spindles leading up to a raised deck with wood skirting, designed, built and installed by Palmer's Woodworking of Fergus, Ontario.

From the front, you can see how this deck staircase climbs straight up to the raised deck. The stairs are wide and even, with railings and wood spindles on both sides for a steady hand.

The deck boards, railings and skirting are all wood, so the whole deck has one warm, natural look. It sits nicely against the brick of the house and the open lawn around it.

A good deck staircase is easy on the knees, with steps that are the same height all the way up. We build every deck staircase with that in mind. It’s part of how we work at Palmer’s Woodworking in Fergus.

The deck at the top has room for a table and chairs right outside the door, so it’s an easy place to eat outside or watch the kids in the yard. The open lawn all around makes the deck the centre of the backyard.
