Cabanas #12

Close up of an octagonal cabana roof with wood shakes, a small cupola on top and natural wood siding below, designed, built and installed by Palmer's Woodworking.

The cabana cupola roof is the crowning detail on this project. The roof is made of many sloping faces that meet at the top, all covered in wood shakes, and a small cupola sits right at the peak.

The cupola has its own little roof and trim, and it gives the whole building a charming, old fashioned look. From below, you can see how every row of shakes follows the angle of the roof so the lines stay neat.

Under the roof, the natural wood siding and the black strap hinge on the door carry on the same warm, rustic feel. The trees overhead frame the cabana nicely against the sky.

Roofs like this take a lot of careful cutting, since every face has to meet its neighbours at the right angle. It’s one of our favourite kinds of details to build.
