Palmer’s Woodworking designed, built and installed this wall unit for their client in Guelph, Ontario.

These wall units frame a fireplace with a matching pair of display cases. Each one has glass shelves lit from above, so anything you set on them catches the light, and underneath there’s a cabinet with shaker doors for storage.

In the middle, a white mantel and surround finish the fireplace, with room above for a painting. The glass keeps the display cases light and airy, so the wall feels open even with plenty of storage.

Lighting inside the shelves is a simple addition that makes a big difference in the evening.

Every glass shelf sits on a painted white back, which keeps the cases bright and helps the pieces on display stand out. The shaker doors below match the mantel, and crown moulding runs across the tops of both cases so the whole fireplace wall reads as one design. It’s an elegant look that suits a classic Guelph home.
