We designed, built and installed these custom wall units for our client in Fergus

A big fieldstone fireplace like this one deserves to be the star of the room, so we kept the built-ins simple. On each side there’s a white cabinet with two shaker doors, topped with a counter for lamps and photos, and above them two white floating shelves line up with the wood beam mantel.

The white finish lets the stone and the green walls do the talking, while the cabinets hide away the clutter that tends to gather around a fireplace. With the crown moulding and the raised hearth, the whole wall now looks balanced and finished.

Floating shelves work well beside a fireplace because they give you somewhere to display things without closing in the stone.
