We designed, built and installed this wall unit for our client in Belwood, ON

This wall unit frames the fireplace with a pair of white bookcases. Each side has open shelves above and a cabinet with shaker doors below, and both are finished with crown moulding at the top.

Between them, a chunky dark wood mantel sits over the fireplace, and the dark plank wall above gives the centre a dramatic look against the white. The contrast makes the fireplace the focal point of the room.

We kept the lines of the bookcases simple so they wouldn’t compete with the mantel. The shaker cabinets below are deep enough for games, books and blankets, and the shelves above hold everything from photos to plants. The grey walls on each side tie the white built-ins and the dark centre together nicely.
