Palmer’s Woodworking designed, built and installed this fireplace wall unit with floating shelves. On each side of the stone fireplace, white cabinets with shaker doors are topped with warm wood counters, and three wood floating shelves rise above them.

The fireplace has a stone surround and a wood mantel to match the shelves, and the white chimney above it runs up to the ceiling. The dark wall paint behind the shelves helps the wood stand out.

Floating shelves keep this wall feeling open, while the cabinets below give plenty of space for books, games and other things you want to keep out of sight.

Mixing white paint with natural wood is one of our favourite ways to make a fireplace wall feel warm and modern at the same time.

Every piece was built to fit the space, so the shelves line up with the cabinets and the mantel across the whole wall.
